With more than 15 years of greatness in Columbia, South Carolina, head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has established the Gamecocks as a blueblood program known for developing WNBA talent.
As Staley and South Carolina continue preparing for the 2025 season, the coach still finds it to cheer her former players on as they play professional ball. This was seen this week when she was cheering on the Golden State Valkyries’ recent signing of former Gamecock Bree Hall, who will be joining former teammate Laeticia Amihere.
South Carolina HC Dawn Staley Cheers On Gamecock WNBA Reunion After Valkyries Sign Bree Hall
The WNBA season is well underway, and the league’s newest franchise, the Golden State Valkyries, has dealt with some growing pains. Still, recent roster additions have South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley overjoyed.
In a post on X, the Valkyries announced that they would be signing former Indiana Fever draftee Bree Hall to their team on Wednesday, June 18.

“Let’s get it [Bree Hall]! I love this for you!!! [Laeticia,] take care of your [South Carolina] sister!!!”, Staley wrote, adding heart-eyed emojis as she shared the post from Golden State.
Staley was referring to forward Laeticia Amihere, who is leading the young team after being signed to the squad on June 8. Amihere, who was drafted by the Atlanta Dream in 2023 with the 8th overall pick, had started 21 games for the team before being waived in February.
The Indiana Fever chose Hall with the 20th pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She saw time during the Fever’s preseason game against the Brazilian National Team, scoring nine points and pulling four rebounds in 16 minutes, but the Fever later waived her before the season started.
Golden State adding both Amihere and Hall, who were teammates on the 2022 national championship squad, to its roster provides another bit of trivia for women’s basketball aficionados.
There are now 11 former South Carolina players currently on WNBA teams, including A’Ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, Kamilah Cardoso of the Chicago Sky, and Hall’s former Indiana teammate, Aliyah Boston.
Hall will get her first chance at “revenge” on Thursday, June 19, when the Valkyries take on the Indiana Fever.
